There is a tradition which identifies the Cenacle of the Last Supper as the place where The Holy Spirit of Pentecost descended on the apostles and disciples. The Cenacle, from the first days of Christian faith, was the special place where the Bread of Life was given to nourish us and the Holy Spirit came to strengthen our life of faith.
For the past fifty years the Cenacle in Houston has been a special place of retreats, prayer and meditation on the scriptures for those who desire to deepen their union with God. Under the direction of the Religious of the Cenacle, the Houston Cenacle is an oasis where those with faith deepen their spiritual life through the Eucharist and the study of the masters, and for those whose faith is weak or moribund, it is a wellspring of new life in the Holy Spirit.
For fifty years the Houston Cenacle has been a blessing to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. I am very grateful to the Religious of the Cenacle for their sponsorship of the Cenacle as a spiritual oasis and for the generous donors who have supported this important ministry and made it available to thousands seeking a greater and more intimate union with God.

WOW! Thanks for the “day of peace”! Thanks for the Cenacle…
God is everywhere…but God’s concentration is just a little higher at the Cenacle!

The Cenacle... a balm, a soothing oasis, a place where the journey can begin, a place where I discovered how much God really loves me. ~Anna Babin
Thank you for all the ways you helped to make this [individual directed retreat] a transforming journey for me. ~Joe Quinn
Being in this holy place – knowing all my needs would be met, allowed me the freedom to just “be” with my Creator God. ~Terry Pozza
I consider myself richly blessed to have been led to the Cenacle. Over the past several years, it has been my safe haven, my spiritual retreat, and holy ground where I have re-connected deeply with Jesus Christ and with God. As a minister, I give much to others. The Cenacle has been the sacred place where I can re-fill my cup over and over again. I have always felt the presence of Love, Caring and Faith on these holy grounds. It is, of course, the Presence of God. And it is the Presence of God demonstrated through each of you. In loving appreciation, Patricia Bass
It is a wonderful blessing to have the oasis of the Cenacle in the middle of Houston. One does not have to travel far to find God’s peace and mercy. ~P.G.
The kindness of the staff and spiritual directors is deeply appreciated. ~P.G.
The grounds and landscaping are lovely and really enhanced my experience of God’s ordered kingdom and creation. ~P.G.

Nestled silent, save for the natural sounds of its beauty deep within our imagination, Cenacle appears as our place of refuge, of understanding, of friendship, of spirituality, of goodness and of discovery. The call of the peacock introduces the morning sunlight as silent bells sound forth inviting us to participate in a metamorphosis, a transformation, an awakening into a new spirit of God, self and joy. It is as if we are enveloped by the vapored mist of change, love, compassion and discernment once we have entered these hallowed grounds. Fear and trepidation are left at the door when friendship, kindness and understanding guide us into this womb of loving experience. ~David L. Devaney
Cenacle is not merely a respite on the pathway to God but rather the unthreatening rainbow of knowledge and experience openly shared and exchanged. It is a fortress of universal faith in God without the walls and the robes and pomp and the circumstance. It is our hope, as we, hand in hand, endeavor to touch the heaven within us with our heart. It is the love of God revealed through the sisters of goodness and faith, the directors of the spirit and its joyful staff. Cenacle is love itself in a sea of anger, madness and deception. It is now for me, not only my denouement but too my commencement into a new world of God, faith, love and creativity. ~David L. Devaney
I've been talking up 'the wonders of the Cenacle to members of my family. To the spa enthusiast, I've called the Cenacle "a spiritual spa." To the lover of C. S. Lewis' book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, I've called your Houston Cenacle "a passageway to Narnia." ~Lee Mountain
The Cenacle is a Holy place – a place where I have rested in the lap of God and have danced with Jesus. It is a Healing place – a place of hospitality and acceptance. It’s a place my heart calls Home. ~Joyce Richey
The atmosphere at the retreat wrapped around us like a protective cocoon... nurturing us in your warm embrace; then, releasing us like a butterfly, regenerated, to our world – uplifted to take on any challenge. ~Olivia O’Brien
The year to the day after my father died, my mother, my sister from Fort Worth, and I attended a "Grief Workshop." It was what we all needed! A time to be together; a time to remember; a time to share our loss and appreciate what each of us was experiencing. That is the only time the three of us had had an opportunity like this, and it was helpful, comforting, and something that meant a lot to all of us! That retreat was just what each of us needed. I have to thank the Cenacle for everything.
~Roxanne Gilson
The Cenacle and the staff have always been dear to me! What a beautiful setting to help one feel the Lord's presence! My only regret is that I do not make more time for this spiritual renewal. I have attended retreats, private, silent, and group for several years and I cannot begin to tell you what each of them means to me. Each is better than the last! The Cenacle is a place to find oneself, and the staff and Sisters are there to direct us
when needed. It allows us private time for reflection and group exchanges. The Cenacle has it all.
~Naomi Smith
There are few places in Houston, if any, that allow me to calm down, reflect and pray. The moment I walk into the Cenacle, I feel a sense of peace - the kind I would like to have at all times. The place allows me to re-energize and feed off the positive energy of the sisters, the staff and other souls searching for the same thing I am: to reconnect with our faith, to gain a sense of self and to get the tools to continue on this beautiful, miraculous yet sometimes difficult journey of life.
